In the context of the new era, green development has become the core of new concepts and practices of national governance. On 31 July 2024, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued an opinion on accelerating the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, clarifying the policy of unswervingly following the path of ecological priority, conservation and intensive, green, low-carbon and high-quality development. As an important place for cultural inheritance and knowledge dissemination, libraries have an irreplaceable responsibility in reducing carbon footprint and creating ecological civilisation. In response to the call of the state and to promote the deep integration of librarianship and ecological civilisation construction, we put forward four major action initiatives: green education, management, service and construction.
