In November 2024, the Growth Library, jointly built by Yantian District Library and Vanke Foundation, will be opened. The museum is located on the fifth floor of the carbon neutral park of Meisha Vanke Centre in Yantian District, with a construction area of 150 square metres, divided into a reading and leisure area, a ladder salon activity area; There are more than 3,000 paper books, with a special reading shelf for "carbon neutrality and waste-free recycling"; Provide self-service borrowing and returning, mobile digital reading, green reading experience and other services.

The growth library is the first carbon-neutral theme library in China, integrating ecological protection, sustainable development education and public cultural services.

1. Build a green and low-carbon library. The museum uses floor-to-ceiling glass windows and light-transmitting skylights in a large area to reduce energy consumption due to natural lighting; The lighting and power supply of the venue comes from rooftop photovoltaics, and the carbon footprint is close to zero. The bookcases, tables and chairs are made of low-energy bamboo materials, and the decorations are made of waste recycling, which is environmentally friendly and beautiful.

2. Carry out green reading practices. Focusing on the green theme, community green reading spots such as the "Blue Carbon" Meisha Ocean Library, the Black Soldier Fly Workstation, the Rooftop Ecological Garden, the Glacier Climbing Wall, and the country's first "Four Zero Restaurant" McDonald's have been introduced, so that residents and tourists can enjoy a comprehensive and diversified green reading experience. At the same time, it has created a green and low-carbon tour route for a "zero" carbon plum good life in series with the green projects in the jurisdiction, where visitors can visit and take pictures, participate in course lectures, consume green and sustainable products, participate in hand-painted environmental protection bags with plant dyes, trade in the old for the new, and other interactions, and immerse themselves in green and low-carbon life. It serves the 3.2-kilometre Yantian Dameisha Carbon Neutrality Pilot Demonstration Zone, covering 20,000 residents in the surrounding communities and more than 20 million tourists every year.

3. Promote the concept of green reading. Taking the growth library as a practical model, the experience was summarised and refined to form the "Yantian Initiative for the Green Development of Urban Study", which will be released at the annual activity of the national urban study room cooperation and sharing mechanism in 2024. The initiative proposes the 4E green action plan of "education, management, service, and construction", and advocates that libraries actively contribute to the construction of a modern society in which man and nature coexist in harmony.
